International Activities

London is one the main international centres of finance, communication, culture and trade.

From its earliest days, the firm has worked for clients who do business globally. Cross-border work accounts for an ever increasing proportion of the firm’s business.

Our international clients include businesses involved in marketing services for mobile phone operators, telecoms, the production and exploitation of sound recordings, films, TV programmes and the internet, ISPs, IT software and the provision of support and maintenance services, mobile gaming software, lifesciences (including pharmaceuticals, biotech and clinical research), as well as specialist international financiers involved in these and other, more industrial, sectors.

Marriott Harrison’s dispute resolution team undertakes work for all such clients and has expertise in all aspects of cross-border and multi-jurisdiction disputes. The firm also represents sovereign states’ interests in commercial and litigious matters.

As a result the firm has established a large and growing worldwide network of relationships with individuals and businesses, including institutions, law firms and intermediaries with interests in these sectors.

One size does not fit all, so historically we have preferred not to be restricted in the use of law firms in other jurisdictions. Instead we have chosen individual lawyers and law firms specifically to suit the client and the task in hand, maintaining non-exclusive relationships with colleagues worldwide.

Marriott Harrison is a multicultural law firm. Languages spoken by our lawyers include Brazilian Portuguese, Cantonese, French, German, Polish, Punjabi, Spanish and Urdu. Some of our lawyers are also qualified to practise in the states of New York.

Members of the firm regularly attend legal and relevant industry conferences outside the UK. These include the annual IBA conference, MIDEM, MIPTV, the Cannes Film Festival, MIPIM and others. We also undertake client specific trips. Recently we have visited clients in Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Switzerland, the UAE and the USA. We currently have one lawyer involved in large scale global IT infrastructure projects for an international bank on secondment in the Netherlands and in Switzerland.

If you need further information on any of the above, please contact your usual Marriott Harrison contact or alternatively speak with Hugh Gardner (T: +44 207 209 2042 or e mail: Hugh Gardner) who will direct you to the right individual within the firm to deal with your enquiry.
