City and County Healthcare Group acquires Sterling Homecare

City and County Healthcare Group, a domiciliary care provider backed by Sovereign Capital, has acquired Sterling Homecare Limited ("Sterling") as its first bolt-on.

Marriott Harrison advised City and County Healthcare Group and Sovereign Capital on the acquisition, following the original investment by Sovereign Capital of City & County Healthcare (formerly London Care) in September 2009.

Based in Blidworth, Nottinghamshire, Sterling provides c7,000 hours of care per week to the elderly in their own homes, under contract to Local Authorities, Primary Care Trusts and a number of private clients. Each of Sterling's five branches across Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire are rated as "good" by the Care Quality Commission, as reflected in the strong customer relationships and local market reputation.

Commenting on the transaction, Dominic Dalli, Partner at Sovereign Capital said: "We are delighted to be able to expand City & County Healthcare's geographic reach through the acquisition of Sterling. In doing so, we are pleased to be able to satisfy both the ongoing outsourcing drive by local authorities, whose commissioners recognise the benefit of domiciliary care as a lower cost alternative to residential elderly care in most instances, and the personal preference for end user clients to stay in their own homes."

Craig Rushton, CEO of City & County Healthcare added: "We are pleased to welcome the team at Sterling to the Group and look forward to working with them to take advantage of the significant tender opportunities available to build on their impressive growth in the Midlands."

Dee Sian, Corporate Partner, commented, “We were delighted to be involved in the acquisition, being the first for City & County Healthcare, since the original investment in September 2009 when we advised Sovereign and City & County Healthcare. The acquisition further strengthens the Group’s dominance in domiciliary care, now complimented with Sterling's founder, Stuart Carlton, to the already strong management team.”

Dee Sian (Corporate partner) led the MH team, comprising Jon Sweet (Corporate partner), Bob Cordran (Employment partner), Guy Hitchin (Property partner), Tony Granby (Tax) and associates, Chloe Hymas and Eitan Jankelewitz.
