Summer Vacation Scheme

The Marriott Harrison Summer Vacation Scheme is an excellent way to discover whether working for a specialist Corporate/Media law firm is for you. You will be involved in real project work from all of our departments and get to see what it’s like to make a genuine contribution to live transactions.

Our Vacation Scheme is not only your chance to gain valuable work experience, but it’s also our chance to gauge whether you may have the character and ability to be a successful trainee solicitor here. At present we recruit all our trainees from participants on our Vacation Scheme.

During the Vacation Scheme you will be asked to complete a research task. To complete this task in conjunction with work given to you by members of the firm throughout the week you will need to manage your time successfully in the same manner as you would during your training contract and ongoing career as a solicitor.

On the final day of the Vacation Scheme you will also be asked to give a five minute presentation on a non-legal topic at an informal lunch. This provides an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your interests beyond your legal studies.

Vacation Scheme placements typically run for one week during July, August and early September. Each participant will be assigned a mentor for the duration of their placement and will sit with a qualified solicitor.

Successful applicants will have a good academic background (normally not less than 2:1 degree is required) as well as the drive and personality to match our own. Please apply by sending, preferably by email, your CV with a short covering letter to Liz Arscott. The closing date for application is 30th April.

In your application you should set out your reasons for applying to participate in our Vacation Scheme, plus any other information you think we might find useful to help us to assess your application. Please include your availability during July, August and early September. Shortlisted applications will be contacted in early to mid-May by telephone for a short interview. Successful applicants will then be notified by email towards the end of May.

Applicants should note that Vacation Scheme participation is unpaid, however we will cover all reasonable travel costs.

Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications received and the number of participants involved in the Vacation Scheme, we are unable to provide individual feedback or references.
